The Familongue winery is located 30 km west from Montpellier. The vineyards cover 25 hectares and have rocky and limestone soils to the north and alluvial sand to the south. Owners Martine and Jean Luc Quinquarlet work organically but without certification and to this end encourage vegetive growth around the vines. This forces the roots deeper and keep yields low. In addition, a special organic compost is used in order to maintain balance in the soil. The Carignan, Cinsault , Grenache and Syrah vines age from 20-70 years old. The resplendent red macaw on the label is down to Martine and Jean Luc's other passion, breeding exotic birds.
