| In 1995 José Vicente Domeco de Jarauta built a modern winery and hired his son Jose Vicente Domeco de Jarauta, who had studied oenology in the Penedés with the primary target to combine tradition, quality and innovation. The vineyards are located in Aldeanueva de Ebro, Alfaro, Autol and Rincón de Soto, all belonging to the DOCa Rioja. They are old vineyards with low yields, calcareous clay soil with many boulders that aid the greater penetration of roots and a better water filtration. This combination of perfect growing conditions, a significant investment in the best modern equipment and a move towards organic viticulture mean that the Domeco La Jarauta wines are incredibly consistent, well made and tastes very fresh, even when having undergone a period of aging in barrel and bottle. |
