Viña Sastre is a benchmark family-run winery located in in the town of La Horra, boasting some of the oldest vineyards in the whole Ribera del Duero region.
Since the tragic passing of his brother Pedro, Jesus Sastre has become the driving force of the project. He is committed to organic farming and biodynamic agricultural principles. Initially there is a precise selection of fruit from old vineyards many of which border those belonging to Peter Sisseck and from which he makes Pingus. Fermentation occurs through the use of indigenous yeast and the winery is state of the art with little or no pumping used. The Roble is aged for seven months in mainly American Oak. Pago de Santa Cruz is from a single 65 year old vineyard and offers a more classic take on the Ribera style. While Regina Vides is more mdern, spending 24 months in new French Oak. Finally, Pesus comes from a small parcel of 82 year old Tempranillo blended with a little Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
