Recently named in the Top Ten of young Cape winemakers to watch, young winemaker Johan Meyer is one of South Africa’s most promising talents. His JH Signature Wines are made from selected grapes in the cooler regions of Elgin, Outeniqua and Elandskloof, where he is making terroir-focused Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in small batches. “I fell in love with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay while working in New Zealand and Santa Barbara. There’s great potential for both grapes in South Africa, and, as they are less widely planted, you have a chance to put your own stamp on the wines if you do a good job,” he says. He recently started bottling three single vineyard Pinot Noirs which he vinifies in the exact same way, so as to showcase the distinct expression of each site. Johan and our very own Ben Henshaw also collaborate on Mother Rock Wines, so needless to say, we're big fans of his work!
