Juan Pablo (Juampi), youngest of the Michelini brothers, started this fascinating project in 2014. Channelling his experience in Gualtallary - a sub-region of the Uco Valley - into this small production of innovative wines under the label Altar Uco. The grapes are sourced from high altitude sites at around 1,350 metres, and are farmed organically where possible. A true trailblazer of Argentinian wine production, he is experimenting with concrete eggs, flor ageing, deliberate oxidation and non typical blends such as Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc. Aiming to interpret this unique place, allowing the wines to rest and age gently. "I'm looking for elegance, not extremes, not sharp, not green, not scratchy". These lively wines with refreshing acidity and low alcohols are gaining plaudits.
