Gen del Alma is the personal project of winemaker Andrea Mufatto and her husband Gerardo Michelini. Although they only started up in 2012, it's already a name to watch amongst the new wave of Argentinian producers who promote freshness and a sense of place over winemaking process. We first met Andrea and Gerardo in 2016 during harvest in Bierzo, and had an instant connection with them and their wines. They own and lease a few hectares in the Uco Valley subregion of Mendoza. Their aim is to show the diversity of terroir within the valley where Geographical Indications (GIs) are just starting to be established. These are compelling wines, showing a high degree of drinkability and finesse rarely seen in Argentine wine. But don’t mistake the fun labels and deliciousness for a lack of gravitas, there’s a seriousness in their top wines, and across the board minimal vinification allows the fruit to shine.
