The distinctive Kimmeridgian marl soils in the south of Champagne have more in common with Chablis than the rest of the region; Val Mentra combines racy, steely red currant and yellow plum acidity with a full, vinous texture. It saddles both schools of Champagne, richness and freshness, with no dosage added, to make a complex wine that works wonderfully with food or as an aperitif.
