Founded by Californian native Alice Anderson, Âmevive is a deeply personal project with its first vintage released in 2019. A graduate in Viticulture and Oenology from California Polytechnic, Alice’s journey into wine thus far has been both immersive and international. She started her winemaking travels in Central Otago, New Zealand in 2015. Her focus, though, lies with northern Rhône varieties, honed over two formative years at Pierre Gaillard. It was here that Alice fell in love with French wine and culture, and where the foundation for Âmevive was laid. She has more recently expanded her plantings to include Mediterranean Spanish varieties, as she is drawn to their resilience and suitability to warmer climates—requiring fewer sprays, less water and offering a more sustainable future. In the cellar, winemaking is minimal intervention, with zero additions besides a touch of sulphur dioxide at bottling. The wines are crafted with an aim to bridge the gap between the natural and classic wine palate—offering a grounded sense of place with modern playfulness, tying into the name of the project, meaning “lively soul”. The label art is equally personal to Alice and her life—featuring Alice’s own handwriting and watercolour drawings of nature found in the vineyards by Alice’s mother. The Âmevive wines are made not just with intention to be delicious, but with genuine care for the land that surrounds her now in the present and for its years to come.
