Located in Leynes, at the crossroads between the Mâconnais and northern Beaujolais, Domaine Chardigny is a family estate whose vineyards have been in continuous ownership since the 18th century. In 2015, the three brothers - Pierre‑Maxime, Jean‑Baptiste and Victor‑Emmanuel Chardigny - officially established Domaine Chardigny, breathing new life into the family vines and marking the arrival of a new generation grounded in both tradition and technical precision.
The estate spans 20 hectares, evenly planted to Chardonnay and Gamay, across Saint‑Véran, Saint‑Amour and regional Bourgogne appellations. All vineyards are certified organic, with particular emphasis placed on soil health, manual vineyard work, and the strict limitation of synthetic inputs. Jean‑Baptiste, who spent seven years as Chef de Cave at Domaine Leflaive in Puligny‑Montrachet, has carried over key learnings from biodynamic viticulture and applied them rigorously to the family’s vineyards, which have been farmed in the same way for the past five years.
White wines are anchored in Saint‑Véran, drawn from parcels on argilo‑calcareous and hard limestone soils, including old‑vine holdings on some of the appellation’s most highly regarded slopes. Reds come primarily from Saint‑Amour, where stony, south‑facing sites contribute structure, depth and precision to the Gamay.
In the cellar, the approach is deliberately restrained. Vinification favours simple, low‑intervention methods, with unnecessary technology avoided in order to preserve vineyard character. Fermentations are conducted with a light hand, and élevage takes place across stainless steel tanks, foudre and seasoned oak barrels, selected to support the wines rather than dominate them.
