Famille Bieler

Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence

Charles has spent more than 25 years making wine across France, California and Washington State, with much of his work finding an audience in North America. Throughout his career, he has remained driven by curiosity, collaboration and a willingness to explore new expressions of familiar styles.

Working in the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence, Charles has recently focused on the ageing of rosé under flor yeast. Inspired by conversations with close friend and fellow winemaker Raj Parr, and with the help of longtime Indigo collaborator Norrel Robertson, he sourced freshly emptied Manzanilla barrels from Bodega Barbadillo and transferred them directly to the south of France without cleaning. The results were extraordinary: the flor came alive, and the wine evolved into something entirely unique.

Although based in the United States (where his wife is a senior editor at The Wine Spectator) Charles' connection to Britain remains strong. Born in England and educated there during his formative years, he sees this singular wine he’s crafted with estate-grown fruit as a fitting expression to share with his country of birth and is exclusive to the UK market.
