Adega a Barouta is a new project from top vignerons Javier Alen (founder of Viña Mein) and the duo behind the well-known cult project Comando G, Daniel Landi and Fernando García. After 6 fond years of working together, they took the leap to establish their own winery in 2020, where Adega a Barouta was formed. In 2022, winemaker Roberto Núñez joined the operation. Roberto first cut his teeth in winemaking after time working in his native country of Chile with fellow Indigo icon, Marcelo Retamel, and then many years with Comando G in Gredos. He now leads the operation as their “right hand man”; AKA their vineyard manager and cellar master.Based in Ribeiro, in south central Galicia, A Barouta cultivates their grapes on very old vines in historic terraced vineyards on pure granite bedrock. The sites are scattered throughout the scenic Avía Valley, which line the riverbanks and hillsides of Ribeiro. Although famously known as an area with heavy rainfall, the mountains to the north-west provide some protection, ensuring drier ripening conditions for the vines. The prominent Atlantic breeze cools their vines down, preserving the natural aromatics of the grapes and keeping the potential alcohol lower.Paying homage to the Galician terroir, they work solely with native varieties such as Caiño and Brancellao for reds, and Treixadura, Albariño, Caiño Blanco, and Loureira for whites, to list a few. This is a tiny project comprised of only 1.7 hectares, borne entirely out of friendship and passion for this diverse winemaking region. In the winery, Dani, Fernando and Roberto work as a team with one common goal. Their mission is to keep the wines as true to their natural terroirs as possible. They use indigenous yeasts and gentle pigéage so as not to over extract. The wines are then bottled without fining or filtration. The resulting wines are light in body, fresh with an almost ethereal purity of fruit. We are delighted to welcome their village level Ventoleiro and two single vineyard cuvées As Penas and O Penedo to our portfolio.
