Salt of the Earth

Rheingau Rías Baixas Stellenbosch

The Salt of the Earth range is, to put it simply, a passion project from three good friends. When wine writer Jamie Goode, Zalto importer Daniel Primack and our very own Ben Henshaw got together for dinner one night in late 2017, their conversation flowed on to discussing their love for saline, terroir-driven whites. Then a lightbulb moment occurred: their own barrel projects, exclusive to Indigo.A lengthy conversation proceeded to choose the right grape varieties on their pursuit. The brief was to settle on one that represented what they liked drinking themselves; wines that are enjoyed amongst the wine trade, but perhaps don’t get the respect they deserve in the broader consumer world. A grape that clearly transmits its terroirs, and produces age-worthy, saline wines at an accessible price point. Ben, Jamie and Daniel have now created 3 different wines in this range that meet all of the above criteria: a Galician Albariño, a Rheingau Riesling and a Stellenbosch Chenin. Being led by terroir, the artwork on the labels represents the landscapes where the fruit is grown, by artist Mariëtte Kotzé, exclusively for us.Watch this space for the well awaited 4th piece to the puzzle, arriving very soon…
